That’s why we put together this list of resources – both local and national organizations – that can help you understand, connect, and provide the best in products and services for those with low vision.

National Resources

  • Sight Savers America -This organization serves more than 30,000 eligible children each year.  This organization coordinates comprehensive eye care services for children and provides vision aids to those with severely impaired vision.  These products and services are provided regardless of the ability of the child’s family to pay for them, ensuring that all eligible children have the products and services needed to see well enough to succeed in school and in life.
  • U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs – Veterans of the US Armed Forces who are legally blind or suffering from impaired vision can get assistance from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.  They will help provide medical treatment and rehabilitation, as well as connect you with resources to obtain products that will enhance and enable an independent lifestyle.  We all want to be independent, and as a veteran of our Armed Forces, you deserve to enjoy the country that you fought so hard for.
  • Enhanced Vision – Enhanced Vision is a leading developer of assistive technology for the visually impaired including Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Retinitis Pigementosa and Diabetic Retinopathy. Low vision assistive technology enables people to read, write and fully participate in life.

Illinois Resources

  • Illinois Council of the Blind   – Promoting the general welfare of citizens in Illinois who are blind, the goal of the Illinois Council of the Blind is to improve the quality of life for all blind and visually impaired citizens in Illinois. Their objectives include protecting the rights and privileges of visually impaired Illinois citizens by monitoring legislation, agencies, and organizations that provide services for them. They also provide mutual encouragement and support through social interaction. The Illinois Council of the Blind is an autonomous state organization. It is affiliated with the American Council of the Blind which benefits the blind and visually impaired people of the United States.
  • Illinois Deaf-Blind Resources & Connections – This comprehensive list of resources and connections for residents of Illinois who are deaf-blind is sponsored by the State of Illinois. It includes links to the Chicago Hearing Society’s Anixter Center, Lions Club’s Camp Lions in Dixon, IL, the Chicago Lighthouse Deaf-Blind Program, the Helen Keller National Center, Illinois Advocates for the Deaf-Blind, Illinois Department of Human Services, Philip J. Rock Center, the Rockford Center for Sight and Hearing, the Club for Deaf-Blind Adults (Le COBDA), and Visual Language Interpreting.
  • Services for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired – The Illinois Department of Human Services offers programs for adults with visual impairments to enable them to work and participate fully in family and community life. Their goal is to help these people rediscover their independence and freedom. Any Illinois resident who is blind or visually impaired can receive most of these services without cost. Services include vocational rehabilitation programs, community-based instructional programs, a residential center for rehabilitation and education, and a business enterprise program for the blind.
